What are distribution boards?
Fuse boards, consumer units and distribution boards all serve the same purpose. They are pretty much identical pieces of major electrical equipment that control the distribution of electricity to the premises. The terminology used depends on the type of premises and where they are installed.
In larger commercial or industrial installations, it is usually three-phase distribution boards that feed the power supply to multiple sub-mains and single-phase consumer units which serve the final circuits. These are sometimes referred to as commercial fuse boards.
In domestic environments, where semi-enclosed rewireable or cartridge fuses on the main electrical board provide circuit protection, they are called fuse boards.
In places where circuit breakers (MCBs or RCBOs) on the main electrical board provide circuit protection, they are often called consumer units. (Consumer units are the newer versions of the old fuse boards.)
Installing Ryefield Units
Ryefield Units are a common piece of sub-main distribution equipment. These units are usually found in blocks of flats. The sub-mains Ryefield Units are the ideal cost-effective solution to splitting a single DNO (distribution network operators) main supply so that you can install multiple electricity meters in individual flats.
